Italy-Uzbekistan: Second Rectors' Forum

Italia-Uzbekistan: Secondo Forum dei Rettori
On February 18th, the Second Rectors' Forum of Italian and Uzbek Universities was held in Rome at Roma Tre University.

The program opened with the announcement of the 10 winning projects from the joint Italy-Uzbekistan research call and the presentation of the 24 new bilateral agreements signed by the universities following the contacts initiated during the first Forum. During her speech, Laura Ramaciotti, President of the CRUI, stressed the crucial role of collaboration between university systems in strengthening academic networks, developing joint research programs, promoting student and faculty mobility, and consolidating long-term institutional alliances. As evidence of these objectives, Ramaciotti recalled the number of Uzbek students in Italian universities, which has increased from 300 to nearly 1,000 since 2020.

The Second Forum represents the next stage in a journey that began with a similar event held in Samarkand on September 24, 2024, which laid the foundation for a renewed era of academic and scientific collaboration between the two countries. After that first step, and 18 months of intense exchanges, contacts between universities have multiplied, bringing representatives from 31 Italian and 35 Uzbek universities to Rome today. Rectors and delegates discussed bilateral agreements and research projects, highlighting best practices and defining further new areas of collaboration.

The opening session was followed by two thematic sessions dedicated to "Innovative approaches to joint academic collaboration" and "New frontiers of scientific collaboration: thematic areas and common goals."

The closing session provided an initial assessment of the work, with presentations by the rapporteurs of the two thematic sessions and a final reflection by representatives of the Italian and Uzbek ministries.
